FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Pricing, privacy, backup, and how Balance compares to bank-linked budget apps.
Pricing & plans
Is Balance free?
Yes. Balance is free to download and use. Premium comes with a 7-day free trial; afterward you can stay on the free tier or subscribe monthly, yearly, or pay once for lifetime access.
What do I get on the free tier?
Unlimited transactions, accounts, and categories, plus budgets, recurring rules, reports, CSV export, Google Drive backup and sync, custom accent themes, and reminders. The free version shows ads.
What does Premium add?
No ads anywhere in the app, PDF export for reports, and a long-press app icon shortcut to add a transaction instantly, with more premium features planned. Monthly, yearly, and lifetime plans all unlock the same features.
How does the 7-day trial work?
New subscribers get a 7-day free trial of Premium. The trial length and price are shown on the plan before you subscribe, you're not charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel anytime from Google Play before then.
Is there a limit on transactions, accounts, or categories?
No. All three are unlimited on every tier, including the free one.
Privacy, offline & backup
Does Balance work without internet?
Yes, always. Every account, transaction, category, and budget is stored only on your device. There is no server behind Balance. See what works offline.
Does Balance connect to my bank?
No. There are no bank connections and no account sign-up of any kind. You enter every transaction yourself. See how budgeting works without bank linking.
Is my financial data private?
Yes. Nothing you enter leaves your device unless you explicitly turn on Google Drive backup. There is no Muffinly Labs server that ever sees your numbers. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How does backup and sync work?
Backup is optional and off by default. Once you connect your Google account, Balance writes a private JSON snapshot to your own Drive's hidden app-data folder, invisible in your normal Drive files and inaccessible to any other app. With auto backup on, a snapshot is saved when you close the app, at most once every 6 hours, and you can limit it to Wi-Fi.
What happens when I restore from backup?
Restoring fully reverts to the backup's contents rather than merging with what's currently on the device. Balance tells you this plainly before you confirm.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Export transactions, categories, accounts, and budgets as CSV for any date range, scoped to one account or all of them. Premium also exports reports as PDF.
Features & availability
What currencies does Balance support?
Over 150 currencies. Each account carries its own currency and converts back to your default using the exchange rate captured at the time, so historical reports don't change value as live rates move.
Does Balance support Arabic and right-to-left (RTL) layouts?
Yes. Balance is fully localized in Arabic and Urdu with native right-to-left (RTL) layout on Android — the whole interface is mirrored, not just the text.
What languages does Balance support?
Ten: English, Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Portuguese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, and Urdu. Arabic and Urdu include full right-to-left layout, not just translated text.
Does Balance support app lock or biometrics?
Yes. App Lock uses your device's own screen lock — fingerprint, face unlock, or passcode — handled entirely by the operating system. Balance never sees your biometric data.
How is Balance different from other budget apps?
Most budget apps ask you to link a bank account and store your data on their servers. Balance never asks for a bank connection, has no sign-up, and keeps everything on your device by default. See our comparisons with Monefy, Money Manager and YNAB.
Which platforms is Balance available on?
Balance is currently available for Android on Google Play.
